Abstract EN

Background & Objective: Ovarian pathology can occur at any time from fetal life to menopause.

And the most common benign and malignant ovarian masses are cystic in origin, so the treatment is very important where continual search about the preferred ways, less invasion and less complications.

The aim of this study is to describe the advantages and disadvantages of the laparoscopic ovarian Cystectomy.

Methods & Materials: it is a record based descriptive prospective study of 45 patients that had been diagnosed of simple ovarian cyst between 1996 and 2009.

Data have been extracted using questionnaires that have been designed for the purpose of the study, the questionnaires have been coded, entered into PC and analyzed using SPSS.

Results: I had patients between 22 years and 39 years, 11 patients were unmarried and 34 patients were married The parity was between 0 and 4 They complained of the following symptoms: 24%abdominal pain,11%lower abdominal discomfort,49%mensrual disorder,infirtility16%.

The diagnosis was made by transvaginal sonography 76%, and by transabdominal sonography 24%.

The size of the cysts were ranged between 3 cm and 15 cm, with mean 8.7cm.

The cysts ruptured during laparoscopy in 85% without any complications.

The duration of the operation was between 30 and 60 minutes, mean 42.33 minutes, and standard deviation 8.34.

We had impending complications as following: abdominal pain 13%, fever 9%, and there were not any complication in 78%.

The stay of the patients in the hospital were between 6 and 24 hours, mean 12.4 hours.

After 6 months of follow up the patients: 15 patients return to the regularity of their menstruation (68%of 22 patients), where 5 patients returned their fertility (71.4 of 7 patients).

All the cysts were serous in their type after pathologic reading of the specimens
