Abstract EN

Background & Objective: Gingival recession (GR), is the most common problem in the mucogingiva.

This study was aimed to assess the Prevalence of gingival recession in 850 adults individuals mean aged 41year, randomly selected from the patients attending the periodontal department in dental school IUST.

Methods & Materials: sample included 492 female, and 286 male.

The subjects of both genders were divided in 4 groups according to the age rang.

Two surfaces ( buccal ,lingual, ) were evaluated in each tooth, and linear measurments were obtained from the cemento- enamel junction up to the gingival margin.

Concerning the presence of gingival recession, which was recorded whenever there was 1mm or more of root surface exposed.

Three categories were established according to the apicocoronal dimension of the root surface exposed by the gingival recession) simple، moderate، advance( recessions.

Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA test and paired T test, the significant level was set at p0.05<%.

Results: GR was observed in about 91.5% of the patients.

Female was more than male at different static p0.05<%.The average of simple recession was 46,44%,moderate recession32,19%and the sever recession 21,37%.the recession in mandibula was43,9%,and 56,1%in maxilla.

Maxillary molars and mandibular premolars and central incisors are the most effected teeth respectively.

Conclusion: The prevalence of GR was high in adult patients, this lead more effort and take care for the accumulative factors .
