Abstract EN

Objectives: The effect of female genital mutilation / cutting (FGM/C) on a woman‟s sexual experience varies depending on many factors.

The present study was conducted in urban and rural areas of Kafr Saad District, Damietta Governorate Egypt to investigate this topic.

Patients and Methods: This cross sectional study included 1038 women, 881 circumcised women and 157 uncircumcised women recruited from urban “322” and rural “716” areas of Kafr Saad District.

Minimum age of selected females was 18 which represents the age of marriage in Egypt and the maximum age of selected females was 40 years in order to eliminate the effects of hormonal disturbances.

The research tools comprised an interview questionnaire to collect data about correlation between sexual dysfunction and FMG / C.

Results: Based on our finding in this systematic review, we concluded the presence of an association between FGM/C and sexual dysfunction which merits further research.

We could not reach definite “relevant” results about the relation between female educational level and female sexual dysfunction.

Females with chronic medical disorders were found to suffer from sexual dysfunction more than normal ones.

According to our study, “32.4%” of females who shared in our questionnaire were against the performance of FGM/C because they believe that it has sexual and psychological complications.

Conclusion : Circumcised females are suffering from sexual dysfunction more than uncircumcised females.

FGM / C women with sexual dysfunction have the right to have appropriate sexual therapy.
