Abstract EN

Chronic hepatitis B is a global health problem with 350 million chronically infected individuals worldwide.

The liver biopsy is the traditional gold standard for evaluating the liver injury degree including inflammatory activity and fibrosis degree.

However, it remains invasive and uncomfortable to patients.

Our study aimed to find a genetic marker that predicts liver injury degree in chronic hepatitis B patients, by investigating the correlation of both of inflammatory activity and fibrosis degree with the +874 A/T polymorphism, which affects the level expression of interferon gamma gene.

This retrospective cohort study included 26 chronic hepatitis B patients.

Genotyping is carried out using amplification-refractory mutation system- polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR).

The genotypes frequencies were: AA genotype (7/26, 27%), AT genotype (11/26, 42%), TT genotype (8/26, 31%).

We did not find a significant association between the interferon-gamma +874 A/T polymorphism and both of inflammatory activity and fibrosis degree.

This lack of correlation could be due to decreased number of the studied samples.
