Abstract EN

Background: Patients with chronic genital warts have considerable Therapeutic , social and psychologic problems, and in some patients may associated with high risk of cancer in uro- anogenital region.

Ideally.

The treatment shoulol be well tolerated, effective and safe.

Objectives: to evaluate the efficacy of treatment of recurrent, resistant genital warts with combination of intralesional interferon alpha – 2b and cryosurgy ,prospective study.

Methods: This study included 30 patients with chronic recurrent warts referred to dermatology and venereology at Damascus university between may 2002 and December 2005 with follow-up the cured patients for 1-3 years.

patients were divided into two groups : first group : with 8 patients were treated by injecting normal physiological serum intralesional associated with cryosurgery .

-second group: with 22 patients were treated by injecting by interferon alpha 2b associated with cryosurgery.

Results : in first group , cure rate was 12.5 %, and improvement rate was 37.5% , and recurrence rate was 100 %.

In second group, cure rate was 45.45% and improvement rate was 36,36% and recurrence rate was 10%.

Conclusion: According to the cost of treatment , frequency of session and good acceptable therapeutic results ,we recommend using interferon intralesional with another therapies (cryosurgery- Laser Co2 – electrogoagulation---) and keeping it to treat chronic recalcitrant recurrent genital warts .
