Abstract EN

Background: Evaluating the dentoskeletal features of subjects with Class II malocclusion using conventional cephalometric analysis applied to posteroanterior cephalograms.

Materials and Methods: A sample of 50 patients (22 boys, 28 girls, mean age 20 ± 3 yrs.

and 5 months) was selected and classified as Class II division I malocclusion.

This sample was compared with a control group of 51 patients (18 boys, 33 girls, mean age 21 ± 4 yrs., 3 months) were selected with Class I malocclusion.

The subjects of both samples were in permanent dentition and have no orthodontics treatment previously.

Descriptive analyses, and t-student for the statistical study (p<0.05) were calculated for the transversal measurements carried on both cephalograms and gibes models for comparisons between two groups.

Results:The results showed that the maxillary width, at the skeletal, dentoalveolar, and nasal base levels Class II group was significantly(p< 0.05) different when compared with control group.

Conclusion:The comparison carried by cephalograms and gibes models showed narrowing in the maxillary bone in both skeletal and dentoalveolar parts, and in the nasal bone base in the Class II malocclusion cases when compared with the normal Class I.
