Objective: to assess The Prevalence of Postmenopausal Bleeding in Damietta Governorate, Egypt.

using 2D transvaginal ultrasonography and histopathological studies, and to investigate the correlation between various clinical factors and endometrial carcinoma.

Methods: A prospective observational study carried out in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Damietta university hospital of 100 consecutive cases presenting with postmenopausal bleeding one year after menopause admitted or attended to the outpatient clinic from January 2015 to December 2015.

Women who had hematologic disease, or had no uterine pelvic diseases were excluded.

They were evaluated by transvaginal ultrasonography and underwent endometrial biopsy for the endometrial histopathological examination.

Results: The commonest cause of PMB was atrophic endometritis and vaginitis 25(25.%).

hyperplastic endometrium 15 (15 %), endometrial carcinoma 10 (10 %), and endometrial polyp 14 (14 %),2 (2%) had endocervical carcinoma.

Other pathological lesions show 14 (14%) had fibroid, 10 (10%) had endocervical polyp.10 (10%) nonspecific cervicitis Overall incidence of various genital tract malignancies was 18(18.0%).

As regard to2D transvaginal ultrasonography 4 (4%) had Submucous fibroid, 2 (2%) had Interstitial fibroid, 3 (3%) had Simple ovarian Cyst, 2 (2%) had complicated ovarian cyst, and no abnormality detected (NAD) in 89 (89%).

Conclusion: The commonest cause of PMB is atrophic endometritis and vaginitis, The overall incidence of genital tract malignancies in patients presenting with PMB is high (15.0%),therefore, Endometrial biopsy should be performed to exclude endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma in women with postmenopausal endometrial bleeding.
