English Abstract

The study aims to examine key aspects of integrated management system (IMS) of quality, environment and safety, as well as to understand some of the benefits and barriers of IMS implementation in Jordanian water companies.

The main research question is what implementation barriers and benefits exist? how they are perceived by Jordanian water companies? and what potential strategies would impact IMS implementation potential? A rigorous literature review used for constructing the theoretical background, integration strategies, and determining major recognized barriers and benefits for both management systems of standards (MSSs) and integrated management system (IMS) implementation, in order to design the quantitative research, and understand the context and results.

Since the present study methodology is descriptive quantitative.

a Likert 4-point scaled questionnaire of 32 questions were administered and analyzed during the period between (April to July of 2016) in the only 3governmental water companies in Jordan (AWC, JWC and YWC).

The study population represented the companies’ employees across top, middle and lower management levels to determine their perceptions of IMS barriers, benefits and implementation strategies, as well as to explore future potential and recommendations for IMS implementation.

Quantitative data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, and Kruskal-Wallis Ranks Test for non-parametric data.

Statistical techniques using SPSS ® Software Version 23 were examined.

Descriptive statisticswere used for finding the means and standard deviations for implementation barriers and benefits to determine a rank order within each company.

The results indicate positive potential for IMS implementation benefits which scored an average mean of (2.91) in Jordanian water companies regardless of the medium importance of barriers which got an average mean of (2.72).

The results also show a statistical significant difference for implementation strategies for initiation, order and level among water companies in Jordan.

Sixteen null hypotheses were constructed and tested for the independent variable.

Within each hypothesis the variance between independent and dependent variables toward the study objectives were tested.

The results have shown that not all null hypotheses were rejected with the independent variable of management level group.

Significant findings at (p<.05) level (reject the null hypothesis) were found for other hypotheses, particularly for implementation benefits by experience group.

Qualitative data were most revealing with significant findings at (p<.05) level particularly for strategy of initiation, order and level.

All the null hypotheses were rejected for IMS strategy.

The results also indicated the importance of training and experience factors toward IMS implementation.

This study recommends incremental steps toward the ultimate goal of IMS while addressing barriers and obstacles using training, top management commitment and integration guidelines
