English Abstract

This study aimed to measure the awareness level of risk associated with the subcontractors and to determine most of the risk types that are perceived from the main contractors, as well as to submitting contribution to apply the principle of risk management procedure that mitigate and manage risks due to subcontractors in Jordanian construction industry.

To fulfill these objectives, this research was carried in three fundamental stages: literature review on topics related to risk management and subcontractors, personal interviews with 5 projects managers having high experience in construction processes to develop the final form of the questionnaire, at last, questionnaire distribution process; 150 questionnaires were distributed to the targeted sample , which include the Jordanian contracting companies with the first and second classes , while the retained number of questionnaires was 80 ; the total respond rate equal to 54%.

Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the data .The most important results of the where that the main contractors have a moderate level of awareness of risks due to subcontractors, and the perceptions of main contractors of the types of risks due to subcontractor do not vary according to the demographical variables, while the procedures of risk management taken by main contractors vary only according to the classification of the company from the demographical variables.

Based on the research findings, the researcher recommended to take the prequalification process as a main step in selecting the subcontractor, also subcontractors are recommended to communicate with the main contractors effectively to avoid any problems
