English Abstract

This research explores the factors that influence success of construction projects performed in Al-Karak Governorate through the period between the years 2000 to 2015.

Through this research, the researcher identifies the problems that keep from the success of construction projects in Al-Karak Governorate.

The success factors are pointed out in the research throughout the literature review and collected data.

For the purpose of this research, 16 success factors are examined and to be studied through a case study consisting of 45 construction projects, all of which were selected from several departments in Al-Karak Governorate.

The data of the projects there were collected directly from their files and statistical analysis was employed to compare and rank the success factors.

The results of this research indicate that the most important seven success factors of construction projects in Al-Karak Governorate as: Project contract mechanism, No disputes in project, The value of bid bond, Location of company, Conformance to codes and standards, no defects in project, Accurate bill of quantities.

The findings of this research show that construction projects in Al-Karak Governorate are suffering in the first point from three major problems before inviting the contractor to price the tender.

These problems are as follows: Inaccuracies in studying drawings and items of tender, Failure to examine the project site, Incompatibility between contract duration and contract value.

These problems lead to more other problems during the implementation of the projects, the most important of which are: delays in completion and change orders.

The study recommends to visit the site and identify why and to whom is this project, before preparing the drawings and tender documents for any construction project.

This recommendation is crucial to achieve the goals of projects without extending deadlines and budget.
