Abstract EN

The present study aimed to study the effectiveness of extracts of Iraqi propolis and honey bee pollen in the viability of protoscolices of Echinococcus granulosus in vitro.

The results showed that the ethanolic extracts for Iraqi propolis and honey bee pollen is highly effective in the destruction of the protoscolices of E.

granulosus parasite and that the percentage of mortality increases steadily with increasing concentration and duration of exposure to both extracts, and when the treatment with the concentration (6) mg / ml of each of the extracts, the percentage of mortality of the protoscolices was 100% after 15 minutes of exposure to honey bee pollen extract and after 20 minutes when exposed to propolis extract .

Also the results showed that the extract of honey bee pollen was more effective in the destruction of protoscolices from propolis extract, where the LC50 of the protoscolices was (0.39) mg / ml and (0.57) mg / ml, respectively.

The conclusion from this study that the honey bee pollen and propolis, as natural materials that can be used to kill the protoscolices of E.

granulosus parasite.
