Abstract EN

A field experiment was carried out in the Mahaweel Date palm station affiliated to the Horticulture administrative - the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture through the 2012 season for the comparison between the method of manual and mechanical pollination in palm trees, and studying the effect of pollen on some fruiting characteristics of the khistawi variety.

Two factors were stuaed in the experiment: The first factor was a method of pollination which included Manual and mechanical pollination, and the second factor was the variety of male used in pollination which included Ghanami and kdakri variety.

During this research, the following parameters were studied: The percentage of fruit setting, the percentage of fruit loss, amount of yield, and the productivity of pollination method.

Factorial experiment within randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replicates was used.

Results were analyzed and less significant difference (LSD) was used to compare means at probability level of 0.05 using the SPSS program.

A mecanical pollination implement, Tiba Engineering industries co UAE manufactured, was used in the study.

Through this research, results showed the following: The mechanical pollination method for one time showed a significant superiority of percentage of fruit setting, but the manual pollination method did not showed a significant effect on percentage of fruit setting in comparison to mechanical pollination for two times.

A mechanical pollination method showed a significant superiority upon manual pollination and gave a higher productivity, while the method of pollination did not show a significant effect on percentage of fruit loss and amount of yield.

Also, the variety of male used in pollination had no significant effect on percentage of fruit setting, percentage loss of fruit, and amount of yield
