Abstract EN

A plastic waste material in asphalt pavement construction was found to be beneficially addition in asphalt mix modification.

This research was conducted to investigate the effects of adding waste PET into the asphalt mixture.

Four different percentages of PET by weight of aggregate were added using dry process.

Marshall test and their relations with elastic modulus, Indirect Tensile strength test (ITS), Tensile Strength ratio (TSR), Tensile Stiffness Modulus (TSM) and Cantabro loss test were conducted on control and PET reinforced mixture specimens at optimum asphalt content.

It was observed that in many cases PET reinforced mixture had better mechanical properties in comparison with control mixture.

Apparently, the optimum amount of PET as a modifier of asphalt mix was found to be between (0.25-0.5) percent by weight of aggregate
