Abstract EN

This article presents and discusses the evaluation of the radioactivity situation in the (cutting and polishing) factories and workshops in Shack El-Souban region in Cairo, Egypt.

Also, this study aimed to assess the possible potential radiation risk to the workers in marble and granite industry during cutting or polishing.

The activities of the natural radionuclides 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in the marble and granite samples collected from (cutting and polishing) factories and workshops, were measured using HPGe detectors.

Analysis was carried out to examine its impact on human health and the environment.

The results indicated that most of the measured natural radionuclides fall within the worldwide averages identified by the United Nations Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation(1).

The obtained data with similar ones could be used as reference data for any future use for modeling purposes.
