Abstract EN

The global financial crisis of 2008 has significantly impacted banks, insurance companies and financial markets.

As it extended to major world economies, and Europe is among the most affected and particularly the euro zone, scholars are still underway to understand the causes and provide remedies.

This study seeks to clarify the performance of the European monetary union under the global financial crisis of 2008 as it represents a great challenge to its economies.

It analyses the effects of the crisis on some macroeconomic indicators of the European Monetary Union, and outlines the lessons learned in this critical situation to locate imbalances suffered by the latter.
