Abstract EN

The study tackles promotion of police sciences from an academic point of view.

Study stresses the importance of evidence – based policies in policing as well as the importance of encouraging research in police sciences.

Study urges thatisolation of policing research community had an adverse impact on the promotion of police sciences.

Study demonstrates how excellence can be achieved in social and policing sciences and how police sciences can stand out if handled in light of other related sciences such social and humanitarian sciences.

Study also urges promotion of police sciences based on scientific research methods.

This study was primarily submitted to the executive session on policing and public safety held at Kennedy School of Government – Harvard University, with a view to encouraging practitioners and policing decision makers to develop evidence - based scientific methods for the promotion of policing.

Notably,Harvard’s Executive Sessions are a convening of individuals of independent standing who take joint responsibility for rethinking and improving society’s responses to an issue.

Members are selected based on their experiences, their reputation for thoughtfulness and their potential for helping to disseminate the work of the Session.An executive session on policing held in the early 1980s has resolved a host of law enforcement issues at that time, and produced a number of breakthrough researches and concepts.

The study was coauthored by Prof.

David Weisburd, a noted professor at George Mason University, and Mr.

Walter A.

Mayer, the professor at Hebrew University and winner of Stockholm Prize in Criminology in 2010.

Peter Neyroud is Chief Executive of National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) in UK and was awarded Queen's Police Medal.
