Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to highlight the economic importance of payment systems.

The study has concluded that the payment systems have reduced the use of liquidity and lowered the cost of transactions through clearingsystems, they distribute the cost of investment among members of the payment networks and help avoid the burden associated with carrying cash.Replacing money by a payment clearing system as a tool of payment would speed up the circulation of money and therefore would contribute in increasing market liquidity and economic activities.

Payment systems are also considered as a firewall that would enable Central Bank to control the members of the payment system to avoid the rise of financial crisis.

The invented different payment systems contribute to limit and manage the risks associated with payments, so they allow the completion of payments in secure and quick manner and with lower cost.

We have concluded that the banking reforms introduced in 2006 have contributed positively in making the Algerian payment systems more effective given that the cost and deadlines of payments have been reduced and the completion of payments has become safer and more secure.
