Abstract EN

Marine Protected Areas are regarded as one of the most important means to preserve marine biological diversity as it contributes in preventing the weakening and the degradation of ecosystems.

Consequently, most of the countries tended to provide their own protection for its environmental, scientific, touristic and esthetical value by allocating spaces called Marine Protected Areas.

In the framework of this international concern about the environment, Algeria has been adhered in this important mission and thus the Algerian legislator assigned a special legal system for protected areas in the context of sustainable development according to the Law Nr 02/11 of February 17th, 2011 which plays a important role in protecting the marine biological diversity by forbidding some of people’s harmful activities and pre-letting the allowed activities in these zones by imposing penalties as preventive and dissuasive device in the same time against the offenders of this law because of the importance of the protected areas as they are a complete part of the environment .

The protection of the biological diversity is considered a necessity to guarantee a sustainable development of these resources for future generation profit.
