Abstract EN

Methomyl is a carbamate broad spectrum insecticide; quickly paralyze the nervous system of insects by blocking the production and action of cholinesterase.

The rapid development and sharp increase of using mobile phones by people has led researchers to concern about diverse effects of mobile phone radiofrequency waves exposure on human health, this study was achieved to investigate the histopathological effects of methomyl pesticide and mobile phone radiofrequency radiation on rat duodenum tissues.

Male rats were divided into four groups: First group served as control, second group was treated with 50 mg/L methomyl orally; rats of the third group were exposed to mobile phone radiofrequency waves 10 minutes daily, rats of the group four were administrated with 50 mg/L methomyl and exposed to mobile phone radiofrequency waves 10 minutes daily.

After seven days treatment, obvious histological changes were observed in duodenal tissues of rat groups treated with methomyl alone and methomyl with mobile exposure, these changes were including deteriorating of villi shape, decreasing the villi and crypts length, increasing number of goblet cells, increasing infiltration of inflammatory cells in lamina propria, deterioration and congestion of blood vessels in lamina propria of duodenal tissue.

On the other hand there was no histological change of duodenal tissue in rats exposed to mobile phone alone.

These results concluded that methomyl has toxic effects on small intestine tissue, while mobile phone radiofrequency exposure has not any effect on duodenal tissues.
