Abstract EN

The goal of this investigation is to discover the influence of topography on agricultural land use in Mergasoor province in Arbil governorate by using the modern technics specially remote sensing, geographic information system (GIS) and Global Mapper software's, and also depended on (30) meters high resolution of Digital Elevation Models (DEM) Published by American Agency of (NASA).

As a result many maps has been derived such as contour line, slope, and the aspect and many others various maps from the Digital Model (DEM) by using the Spatial analyst tools from Arc Tool Box window in ArcGIS.10.0 software, then the case study area has been subdivided into five elevation zones from sea level.

Also the study area has been classified into five slope categories according to Zink classification.

Even thou the slope direction map has been derived according to the ten main known categories of directions.

In addition to Erdas imagining 9.2 and Global Mapper soft wares for the same purpose in order to make a compassion between all of applications and technics which are applied in this investigation.

Finally the investigation is concluded with a set of conclusions, the most notably one is the ability of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System to handling and analyzing the topographic characteristics and find out it is influence on the agricultural land use, and to produce a very high accurate and interpretational maps
