Abstract EN
The objective of the research was to identify the effects of social network usability on university student’s academic performance .The study concentrated on the side effects of higher-use of these sites.
The researcher distributed 150 surveys to students of a selected university to examine and study the negative effects.
Equality between male and female number was considered.
The students were chosen from College of Humanity in Sulaimania University, second, third and fourth stages from each of Sociology, History, Media and Geography Department.
The study has concluded that the majority of students who were involved the study use social media for (3-4) hours per day.
Facebook comes in the first place in term of usage, and it’s mostly used through cell phone.The driving force behind the adoption of social media is to express their ideas and thoughts.
Hyper- use of this tool until late hours during night, more of students feel tired, exhausted and be late to follow up their classes in the next day, also the research shows that the time students specify for searching the internet is much more than the time that they specify for study, it’s obvious that spending long hours on the internet diminishes student’s academic performance, and consequently they probably fail.
Some of students use these sites to implement some cheating processes.
Finally Researches carried out some communities and promote students about the effects of social networking on their personal awareness, and direct them to use these sites in much more effective way than they do.
