Abstract EN
The present study was carried out to investigate the changes in serum cardiac enzymes activity compared with the histopathological myocardiosis induced by doxorubicin (Adricin) in rats.
Eight male albino rats weighing 150-200 g were randomly divided into three saline treated control animals and five doxorubicin (DOX) treated ones.
Animals treated with DOX received 3 successive dosing of 2 mg/kg body weight on day 1, 4 and 8 and sacrificed on day 15.
The biochemical results demonstrated marked increase in serum creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities and no significant changes in aspartate transaminase (AST) activity in DOX-treated rats.
Histopathological findings of the heart sections revealed myocardial cells eosinophilia with loss of striation and coagulative necrosis with mononuclear cell infiltration mainly perivascular giving features of toxic myocarditis.
