Abstract EN

This study was conducted to investigate the effect season and sector on marketing age of the broilers.

Data on (494) broiler cycles were randomly collected during the year 2012-2014 on the age at marketing, season and sector of production, feed consumption, mortality percentage, cost of production, returns, cost of veterinary resources, market price and total meat production from the farm records and structured questionnaires in Kafr elshiekh, Gharbia and Behira provinces.

The flocks were grouped according to marketing age as: MA1 (35- 40), MA2 (41-45) and MA3 (46 and above) days.

The data were summarized and calculated for each 100 broiler birds to overcome the variation in the numbers of broilers of the different farms then the data were analyzed economically and statistically.

The study revealed that the cost, return and net profit/ 100 broilers were 1895.05, 32029.47 and 238.96 LE for private sector but they reached to 1991.18, 2229.51 and 38.29 LE for governmental sector respectively.

Meanwhile the highest cost value (2079.66 LE) was observed in winter season at marketing age group (46 days and above), but the highest value of return was 2325.54 LE for spring season in marketing age group (41-45 days) also, net profit was found to be higher (288.75 LE) for spring season in marketing age group (41-45 days).

Our results concluded that the best marketing age ranged from (41-45 days) and increasing of marketing age increase the cost of production and decrease the profitability of broiler farms.

The best season for production is spring season also, the private sector was found to achieve higher return and net profit than the governmental.
