Abstract EN

Ovine mastitis has a great economic impact on sheep and goat industry due to its adverse effect on survival of suckling lambs and kids.

Subclinical form is the most serious one.

It may followed by clinical form either acute or chronic.

Besides, it may be considered a serious source of infection to other animals.

In this study 98 lactating animals (71ewes and 27does) were subjected to California mastitis test (CMT) to detect subclinical mastitis.

The prevalence of subclinical mastitis was 59.18% where 46 ewes and 20 does were positive to CMT.

Milk sample from CMT positive animals were collected for bacteriological examination.

Staph.

Aureus, coagulase negative Staph.

Streptococcus spp, Corynebacterium spp, Pasteurella spp.

were isolated.

The isolates were subjected to antimicrobial sensitivity test.

It was found that ciprofloxacin and Sulphamethaxole and trimethoprime were highly effective.

Out of infected animals, 12 (5 ewes and 7 does) where subjected to treatment with Sulphamethaxole and trimethoprime i.m for 3 successive days.

The treated animals were examined using CMT at 25 days after treatment.

The recovery rate was 66.6 %( 4 animals of 12 ewes and does still positive CMT).
