English Abstract

Although women endure to make meaningful evolution in the workforce, there is still improvement to be made to overcome prejudices and systems of exclusion.

Women’s contribution is crucial in the business world today, so it is primordial to understand their unique features.

This present thesis aims to identify leadership traits and styles of women in top executive position in Morocco.

A top woman executive refers to a woman in the position of president, vice president, director or CEO (Hewlett, 2002).

In other words, a woman in a top executive position is at the head of an entity by commanding a group or an organization.

The research consisted of interviewing 18 female executives in private corporations, and non-profit organizations.

The research sheds light on three areas: (a) traits of women leaders in Morocco (b) their leadership approaches and styles, and (c) the challenges they may face to succeed as leaders.

Results showed that the participants’ major traits and characteristics are self-confidence, hard work, courage and good communication skills.

In addition, a transformational leadership style is a common point among participants.

Finally, the three main challenges they have faced are related to gender stereotypes, home responsibilities and lack of mentors and role model.
