English Abstract

Due to the sudden changes in climate and global warming of the Earth’s climate system, an increasing number of governments opted for renewable energies instead of non-renewable resources.

From a sustainable development perspective, Morocco aims to tackle global warming by reducing the exploitation of natural resources and especially the use of fossil fuels.

The main focus of the country has been the use of wind energy, since it mostly imports electricity from external vendors.

To ensure the transition towards a renewable energy infrastructure, wind farm projects should be assessed through a detailed a feasibility study.

The layout of a wind farm defines its wind energy production under specific wind characteristics.

Simulations are required in order to assess the performance and productivity of wind farms before their deployment.

The aim of this project is to build a software tool aimed at simulating wind farms’ energy production and capacity factors per year based on wind and turbine attributes, so as to optimize wind farm layouts according to the desired energy production level while maximizing the capacity factor.

The system developed will enable Morocco to proceed with wind energy projects all over the country by ensuring optimized wind farm layouts
