English Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze why Morocco and Jordan survived the Arab uprisings, despite sharing the same socio-economic and political problems with countries in which the Arab Spring succeeded.

The research is divided to two major chapters plus an introduction and a conclusion.

In the first chapter, I covered the Arab Spring and Arab monarchies resilience literature, the theoretical framework, and the methodology.

In the second chapter, I laid out the collected data, and I presented the findings.

As a methodological approach, I chose a structured comparison to make a focused and systematic assessment.

I based my research on a list of variables.

The dependent variable, in these two cases, is stability.

While, political reforms, the role played by political parties and civil society within the two states, regime legitimacy, foreign powers’ influence, and monarchies’ response to street protests served as independent variables.

Based on the comparison, I concluded that the Moroccan and Jordanian monarchies survived the Arab uprisings because they have positioned themselves above other social and political actors
