English Abstract
This last section examines the findings of this study represented in the fivefold themes that emerged from the narratives.
The purpose of the themes was to understand the relation between the participants and the victimhood discourse that represent refugees.
I found, that all the narratives, through their language and essence, present a counter-story to the majoritarian story of the helpless refugee figure.
Five important themes emerged to exemplify the ways the participants challenge the victimhood discourse: 1- The refugee experience is reconceptualized through the stories as an ongoing struggle that involves change and allows room for growth.
2- The demands and concerns of the participants are translated in terms of dignity and access to rights, as long term measures contributing to self-realization 3- The participants resist the refugee label ascribed to them, through their language and narratives.
4- The participants challenge the work of humanitarian organization that give themselves the right to speak for refugees.
5- The project of “the academic center of Akkar” is a materialized counter-narrative to the victimhood discourse.
