Abstract EN

The reduction of excessive reliance on renter sectors (fuel) and the creation of other alternative economic sectors that are able to compete and meet the products’ competitive quality requirements are the first strategic objective for countries that suffer from the predominance of one sector (the control of a single sector), which is the case of many developing economies including Libya and Algeria.

From here, come the main questions of this research: Did Libya succeeds over the past decades (with the oil boom) in the creation of a solid economic base built on the foundations of economic diversification? What are the available opportunities and possibilities? To what extent, did it have the optimal utilization of these available opportunities over the past decades? We will learn about all this through the study of the historical and geostrategic opportunities and potentials of the Libyan economy, both in economic diversification matters, the sectoral characteristics of this economy and the possibility of economic diversification in the past and future decades.

The research concludes with a set of findings and recommendations.
