English Abstract

The recent aggression launched by the Israeli enemy on the Gaza strip in December 2008 has brought extensive damage in all aspects of Palestinian life, including economic, social and physical aspects.

The impact on the architectural heritage of sites and monuments was the greater.

This research demonstrates the commitments to our heritage, which outline our present and our future.

The research also aims at ensuring that we document the crimes of the occupation and expose these crimes in all international forums.

Moreover, the research attempts to monitor the impact of this aggression and to develop methods of prevention and treatment to reduce the impact of wars on these kinds of buildings.

To reach the objectives of the study, the paper has adopted a scientific methodology based on the description and analysis approach in five main areas.

The first point has addressed some general concepts on the subject of the study.

The second point gives a general overview about the Gaza strip and its urban heritage.

The third point discussed the impact of wars that have passed on the Gaza strip with the monitoring of the impact of the recent aggression on the architectural heritage whether it is direct or indirect impacts.

The fourth point has focused on analytical study of the ancient building (the Municipal Court Building) in Gaza city as a case study, while the fifth part of the study concluded the most important findings and recommendations on the subject of study.

climatic treatments which include the orientation, the building materials, the compacted site for buildings as well as the internal courtyard.

The study suggests that these climatic treatments contributed significantly to the achievement of thermal comfort inside the building.

Accordingly, the research seeks to evaluate this assumption by evaluating the thermal performance of historical building using ECOTECT software in order to determine the percentage of thermal comfort and the average indoor temperature, with comparing the results with the thermal performance of the modem building with the installation of all climatic factors.

The study concludes that the thermal performance of the historical building is more efficient than the modern one by up to double.

It is recommends that it is important to apply climatic treatments as an integrated system in the early stages of the design process, Also the study showed the high effect of building materials on the thermal comfort which reach up to 50 % , while it showed the less impact of the compacted site, Unexpectedly it showed negative performance of the courtyard if it is applied as a single treatment, especially in individual single-storey buildings.
