English Abstract

The life cycle of a construction project is divided into five phases.

planning and designing is one of the most important phases, as project duration is assigned at this phase.

in Gaza, almost all construction projects are accomplished within durations exceeded the durations assigned by the owners.

the recurring of the problem ensures that this aspect does not occur accidentally.

it was found that the deterministic concept is applied only to estimate the project duration.

the results of this method were imprecise because it depends only experience and comparing with similar projects, knowing that each project is unique.

in this paper, a new approach was developed to estimate project duration.

this approach depends on probabilistic concept to build a simulation model for assigning project duration.

simulation technique was applied to design general simulation model which simulates sewer construction projects as a case study.

the model involves all necessary construction processes with their probabilistic distribution functions.

it also contains logical relationships that represent the actual behavior of the project.

the model was designed to support the user with number of alternatives that cover the actual site conditions.

verification and validation processes were applied to the model at different levels.

at the end, visual basic interfaces were developed to facilitate data entry for the model.

these interfaces provide the user with many alternatives options according to site conditions and type of work.
