English Abstract
This paper presents a new approach for offline traffic control for signalized urban road networks.
This method is based on Cell Transmission Model (CTM) which is a 1st order traffic flow model.
An optimisation algorithm, which divides the optimization algorithm into three stages, is developed.
This three stages algorithm (3-SA) is based on Webster formula for cycle length optimization and on genetic algorithm for the green time and offset optimization.
In this algorithm, the stages of optimization are ordered as (1) the common cycle length, (2) the green splits and (3) the offsets of intersections in a considered network.
Another algorithm, which is referred to in this research as parallel genetic algorithm (PGA), is developed.
In the PGA, a simultaneous search over all variables (the entire chromosome) is performed using the reproduction-crossover-mutation process of variation.
The developed algorithms are applied to a relative large network with 12 intersections and compared to existing two methods.
