English Abstract

Road accidents are generally caused by three factors, which are man, vehicle and the road environment.

Before using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in road accidents analysis, the analysis was in one dimension (descriptive analysis) but the spatial dimension was absent.

The integration of GIS in road accidents analysis gives it this spatial dimension, and increases the efficiency of management of this information.

The localization of an accident is possible directly by collecting the coordinate of accident location by GPS or indirectly by Geocoding the accident address to the road network.

This paper shows the importance of integrating the spatial dimension in accidents analysis by Geocoding of accidents and how the GIS helps us to answer the accident queries and identify the accident locations which recorded the high number.

In addition to improve the quantity and the quality of information which should lead to efficient selection of engineering measures and help to reduce frequency of road accidents.

Case studies has been made in Grenoble (France) and Gaza (Palestine).
