English Abstract

Energy consumption is increasing rapidly in Gaza strip (GS).

This reflects upon population growth, increasing living standard as well as the level of development in all aspects of life.

Increases in household consumption were responsible for a relatively high growth of energy consumption since households consume more energy than all other sectors in the Palestinian Territories.

Palestinians import their primary energy requirements from Israel since there are no cheap or easily exploitable energy resources in the Palestinian Territories.

It is of utmost important to study the current situation of energy consumption for developing energy plans and policies.

This paper presents the current energy situation in GS and future projection for the next 25 years.

The Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning model (LEAP) is the simulation model used for the analysis of the data.

These data were collected from various sources such as the Palestinian Bureau of Statistic and a local residential energy consumption survey.

More than 500 households were surveyed for information on their housing units, energy consumption and expenditures, stock of energyconsuming appliances, and energy-related behavior.
