English Abstract

Modular design is an engineering concept which will organize and structure complex systems into a set of distinct sub-systems and components.

These components could be developed independently and then integrated together.

Modular design primary objective is to identify independent and standard units that can be used to create a variety of products.

A three-phase methodology for design of complex product/system is proposed.

Phase I, concept decomposition is preformed.

The assembly and subassembly is divided into modules, and their interactions are identified.

A binary coding system is used for classification.

Phase II, determines the optimum sequence of assembly using DFA design rules.

Finally in Phase III, a complete manufacturability analysis is performed.
