English Abstract
Jean Genet (1910-1986) was a rebel playwright who criticized frustration and degeneration of Western culture.
He was influenced by Antonin Artaud's theories concerning Theatre of Cruelty.
His plays were social protests to liberate people's minds.
He wanted to create his own order violently to demolish civilized restrains that caused agony and pain.
Genet's play The Maids (1964) deals with the suffering of two maids who hate their employer.
They try to enact their revenge.
It is a ritual based on hatred which leads to their destruction.
