English Abstract
Ergonomics is a significant factor in achieving and maintaining high levels of worker productivity and one of the procedures that eliminate the hazards and risk in construction industry.
The aim of this paper is to assess and understand the level of ergonomics awareness in the construction industry and to identify current safety practices.
The method used in collecting the data was by sites observations and Interviews with safety engineers, contractors and labors.
The study indicates that strains and sprains are the most prevalent types of injury resulting in the back being the part of the body mainly affected.
The majority of these injuries are due to overexertion in lifting and carrying heavy materials.
In general, safety and ergonomics measurements in Gaza are not applied in construction firms ; ignoring safety rules by the employers and lack of their knowledge of ergonomics principle are the main causes of real and fatal injury and illness.
