English Abstract

The objective of this study is to improve fire resistance of reinforced concrete columns using polypropylene fibers.

In order to achieve this, concrete mixtures are prepared by using different contents of polypropylene ; 0, 0.45 and 0.67 kg / m^3.

Reinforced concrete column specimens are heated in an electric furnace to temperatures of 400 C°, 600 C° and 800 C° for up to 6.0 hour-exposure and tested under uniaxial compression.

Furthermore, the effect of concrete cover to the reinforcement and yield stress of reinforcement are also examined.

Based on the results of this study, it is concluded that the ultimate axial capacity of RC columns containing polypropylene fibers are higher than those without polypropylene fibers.

Furthermore, the researcher finds out that RC columns which are prepared using 0.67 kg / m^3 of polypropylene fibers can promote the residual ultimate strength during heating.

In addition, it is shown that the cover reduced the losses in yield strength of rebar and ensured higher strength compared to rebar without cover.
