English Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the school discipline patterns in the secondary schools in the governorate of Bethlehem from the point of view of school teachers and students as well as to investigate the influence of the independent variables : gender, school gender, kind of school supervision, years of experience, location of school and qualifications of teachers.

The stratified random sample consisted of 175 teachers and 500 students and the researcher used an instrument to test the degree of practicing the patterns of school discipline.

The instrument consisted of two questionnaires: the first is related to the teacher and it consisted of 30 statements while the second is related to the student and it consisted of 30 statements.

Three types of discipline: counseling, protective and remedial were covered.

A group of specialists in educational sciences tested the instruments validity and reliability through test, retest and internal consistency.

The reliability coefficient was 0.86 for teachers and 0.89 for students.

The results showed that order of the school discipline patterns from the viewpoints of teachers was : counseling, protective and remedial while the order of the school discipline patterns from the viewpoints of students was: counseling, protective and remedial.

The results also showed that there were statistical differences towards the school discipline patterns due to the variables of gender, school gender supervision and years of experience while there were no statistical differences due to the variables of years of experience and qualifications of teachers.

As for students, there were statistical differences towards the school discipline patterns due to the variables of gender, and kind of school supervision.

Based on the previous results, the researcher recommends that teachers should be aware of the regulations of disciplines and should discuss them.

Training programs for teachers should be prepared to develop modern educational alternatives based on using reinforcement methods to control discipline and activate the role of the educational counselor through preparing instructional programs for students to promote their self discipline.
