English Abstract

Municipal solid waste (MSW) leachate contains macro and micro elements that can be used by plant.

A study was carried out to investigate the effects of municipal waste leachate (MWL) on accumulation of heavy metals in soil and barleyaccording to randomized complete block design.

Soil samplings of 0 to 10 cm depth were taken from soil surface and barley was transplanted in these soils.

The experiment consisted of four treatments including control (T1), 25 % (T2), 50 % (T3) and 75 % (T4) waste leachate to water (V / V) ratios, the soil irrigated with 350 ml of them for every day.

After 30 days, samples were taken for testing.

The evidences provided by this experiment indicated that MWL caused increase of soil electrical conductivity (EC),extractable iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), chopper (Cu),cadmium (Cd) and nickel (Ni) in soil but it caused a decreased of soil pH.

These results also showed that MWL caused accumulation of heavy metals in barley.
