Abstract EN

This study focuses on determinants of bank capital structure in the British commercial banks background during the period of 2004-2013.

The dependent variable was the bank leverage, while the explanatory variables were bank size, profitability, assets structure, and bank growth opportunities.

The results show that size and assets structure have positive links with bank leverage.

Whereas bank profitability and growth opportunities were negatively associated to bank leverage.

The study also indicates that the Static trade-off theory and the Pecking order theory are valid in interpreting and understanding capital structure behavior in the British commercial banks context.
