First record of rhabdochona (Rhabdochona)‎ longispicula (Nematoda)‎ in Glyptothorax kurdistanicus from Greater Zab river, Kurdistan region Iraq

Abstract EN

The present nematological study was carried out on 23 fishes hunted in Greater Zab River, Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The survey period embraced June, July and August of 2016.

Adult stages of the parasitic nematode, Rhabdochona (Rhabdochona) longispicula Belous in Roytman, 1963 were identified in the intestinal tract of Glyptothorax (G.) kurdistanicus, parasites were fixed in cold 4% formaldehyde solution, cleared with glycerin.

The proportion of infection and mean intensity of the aforesaid parasite were estimated 17.39% and 3 respectively.

According to the current investigation and reviewing the previous literatures, could be said that the detection and differentiation of this fish intestinal dweller had conduced to the first record of R.

(R.) longispicula in Iraq.

Moreover, G.

kurdistanicus was reckoned a new host for this roundworm.
