English Abstract

Power systems are designed to operate at frequencies of 50 or 60Hz.

However, certain types of loads known as non-linear loads produce currents and voltages with frequencies that are integer multiples of the 50 or 60 Hz fundamental frequency.

These higher frequencies are a form of electrical pollution known as harmonics.

This dissertation studies the impact of the harmonics in Photovoltaic PV on grid system.

Taking one of the PV projects in Jordan as case study “Wadi Mousa PV station” , set in the south of Jordan in Wadi Mousa, the capacity of station around 100 kW, then model and simulate 100 KW PV system by MATLAP and try to mitigate the harmonics appeared in the system in the sunrise and sunset intervals by design harmonics filter and connect it in the PV system by simulation and Comparing the results of this study with other studies that had studied the same problem in different areas from the world.

The filter design which is presented in this dissertation is a suitable design to achieve compensation in reactive power and mitigate the harmonics, this design has shown a good performance in the values of total harmonics distortion THD reduction.

Where the value of THD for voltage decreases from 0.46% to 0.07% and the THD for current decreases from 55.72% to 27.71%.

The achieved values are acceptable and approximately within the International standards which gives the limit of THD must be around 8% for voltage and 20% for current, the decreasing in distortion of the current around 28% which is a good number comparing with the value before filter
