A simple and efficient protocol for the synthesis of dibenzyl carbonates has been developed.

The reaction was accomplished using benzyl halides and Cs2CO3 as the starting materials in the presence of atmospheric pressure of CO2, affording a variety of the dibenzyl carbonates in good to excellent yields under rather mild conditions
