English Abstract
This study assess growth performance of Quercus calliprinos Webb.
Tow factors, aspects (East, North, South and West) and slope positions (Lower, Middle and Upper) were studied on growth parameters, nutrient contents in plant leaves and soil properties.
Samples of leaves and soils were collected in two different climatic conditions in Jordan: The first site was located at Ajloun region, northern part of Jordan.
In this site plant growth performance, plant nutrient contents and soil properties were significantly affected by aspect and slope position.
Plant leaf area, diameter at breast height, crown projection, levels of nitrogen and phosphorous in plant leaves and soil properties had the highest values in eastern and northern aspects compared to the western and southern aspects, while the tree height was higher in west aspect compared with east, north and south aspects.
The second site was located at Shoubak region, southern part of Jordan.
Also, in this site stand growth performance, plant nutrient contents and soil properties were significantly affected by aspect and slope position.
Stand growth parameter had a higher value in north and west aspects than east and south aspects.
Nitrogen content in plant leaves was higher in north compared with south, east and west aspects, while the highest phosphorous content was in east aspect.
Nitrogen content and available potassium in soil underneath the trees had higher concentration in east and north aspects compared with west and south aspects, while available phosphorous and organic matter record a highest concentration in east and west aspects.
Slope position in both sites had strongly effected on all parameters due to the accumulation of run off and deposition from upper toward middle, finally in lower slope.
