English Abstract
This thesis discusses the field electron emission from carbon fiber tips into vacuum that results from applying a strong electric field 3 x 109 V/m.
The purpose of this research is to find and develop long-life electron sources.
Field electron emitters are used in various electronic applications, such as electron microscopes, modern displays, and multiplexers. The main purpose of the work described here is to prepare conical carbon fiber sharp tips, in order to study their emission characteristics, emission current instability and investigate how to overcome the instability of the emission current.
The target of this research is to develop an electron source with high emission current stability and brightness.
Another aim is to study the electron emission mechanism from the carbon fiber micro and nano tips. The measurements presented will include current-voltage characteristics and emission images, chemical analysis as well as scanning electron micrographs, methods of sample conditioning such as initial baking, follow–up baking, thermal relaxation, and cooling processes.
