English Abstract

Jordan has an abundance of solar radiation due to its geographical location, where the sun is available most of the year ; therefore exploit the solar energy can be supplied to generate electricity , since the demand of the electricity is in dramatic increase, and oil prices goes up so looking for a new source of energy has become a matter of urgency. This thesis focus on showing the importance of solar energy by designing a 5MW/d grid connected PV system in al-karak governorate by using HOMER software.

The research seeks to examine whether the PV grid connected system is economically feasible, and whether these projects have the ability to help reducing the overload on the electricity grid. The system capital cost is $4,307,500, the electricity production from PV array is 3,524,592 KWh/yr, and the payback period is 10 years. These results show the system is economically feasible and can face the overload in electricity grid
