Abstract EN

Ruqyah is healing by prayers.

It is the words and phrases of special prayers and verses from the Book of Allah meant to heal from sickness.

The majority of Christians see it as a sacrament which heals the believer patient from his spiritual and physical illnesses.

Ruqyah is closely related to faith in the sense that it involves the unification of worship.

In fact, some people think that Ruqyah alone can have an effect and that it is not a mere cause that Allah laid down.

Scholars have different views on Christian’s Ruqyah for Muslims.

Firstly: it is permissible if Ruqyah uses the book of Allah.

Secondly: it is prohibited.

Thirdly: it can neither be permitted nor prohibited without detailed examination of cases because people and cases are different.

The preponderant opinion, however, is the prohibition of Christians’ Ruqyah for Muslims.

This is attributed to a number of reasons, including: the fact that Christians’ Ruqyah involves the association of partners with Allah as well as false beliefs such as crucifixion and redemption (the belief that Christ came to redeem mankind from the sin of Adam and its ramifications); the fact that Ruqyah is a controversial issue among Christian sects; and the fact that prohibition takes into consideration both benefits and abuses.

As for the argument in favor of the permission of this kind of Ruqyah, it is still under consideration, both textually and referentially.
