English Abstract
The goal o f this study is to recognize the effect o f single mode fiber SMF linear and nonlinear effects such as atténuation, crosstalk, SPM, XPM, and FWM on the performance o f ail optical LANs based on wavelength division multiplexing WDM technology.
In this work the received signal is studied in a point to point WDM system in terms o f power spectrum, and received power with the change o f transmitted power, and fiber length.
Then the Q-factor and BER are investigated in the 3"^^ window with différent parameters such as transmitted power, fiber length, receiver filter bandwidth, and transmitted bit rate, also the performance is compared in the 2 "*^ and 3"^^ windows o f lightwave frequencies.
At last the impact o f Four-Wave-Mixing (FWM) in Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) networks is investigated using the proposed Assign Shortest Path First (ASPF) algorithm for wavelength assignment.
The effect o f increasing the input power on the FWM crosstalk and as a resuit on the blocking probability is an attractive work.
The work includes theoretical background o f WDM networks and fiber nonlinear effects, some previous work, the network design and simulation, and then the results that are important for WDM systems designers and researchers are presented.
At the end some recommendations for future work are included for interested researchers.
