English Abstract

The present study investigates the notion of objectivity of the English media in covering the Arab revolutions through the selection of their terminologies.

In order to fulfill the purpose of the present study, the researcher selected 150 news stories randomly from the three newspapers websites: the American CNN, the British BBC, and Aljazeera (English), focusing on eliciting the objective and non objective expressions that appear within the mentioned newspapers stories.

In analyzing such news stories, the researcher used Critical Discourse Analysis theory as a major method in the analysis and the interpretation of the results of the study in association with pragmatics or Pragma Critical discourse analysis as the major theory in this study.

The results of the analysis indicate that the expressions used by Al- Jazeera newspaper are more neutral and objective than those used by both the BBC and the CNN newspapers.

The analysis also indicates that all the selected expressions are the result of the application of various linguistic strategies and various lexical features.
